Rulna school - mufti mania day.
Last year we had a mufti manis day to raise money for Rulna, a tiny village in Papua New Guinea, to build a new school. Together the catholic schools in New Zealand raised $50,000, and today we got some photos of the school that is being built with the help of our money.
Isn't it great to see where the money is going?
We will be having another mufti day soon to help Rulna, don't forget to help by bringing your gold coin donation.

Te Reo Maori. This is Maori Language Week!
This week we are working hard to speak more Te Reo in our classroom as it is Maori Language Week. We have finished making these signs to put up to help us remember simple instructions.
We took the photos ourselves to match the instructions. Ka pai Ruma tekau!

Zero Waste!
Today we had our first visit from Anna, the zero waste lady. : )
She talked to us a lot about making a difference to our planet by reusing.
That is when you use something lots and lots of time and don't just use it once and throw it away.

Here is a cool website called Ollie saves the planet, with some fun activities to teach us all about reduce, reuse, recycle and compost. : )
Have fun saving the world!

Today we had a visit from the fire brigade and the police. It was a practice for if we had a real fire in the school. They told us about the emergency services system. You dial 111 to get help!

Term 3 Systems
This term our learning area is systems!
We have had a busy start to the term with a systems assembly on Monday and a systems rotation today.
On Friday we are having some special visitors into our school to tell us about another important system.
Have a look at the slideshow and photos of our first week back at school.
Thanks for your help making this, Anna-Kate!

Money Maths!!
Today in maths Miss Rapira brought in a whole pile of supermarket fliers. We had to choose enough food for a day - breakfast, lunch and tea (and snacks if we had enough money)! We only had $50 to spend! It was great fun and we enjoyed using the calculators to add up as we went.
Great maths learning Miss Rapira!!

Letter Writing
Well the holidays are nearly over and it is almost time to head back to school for another busy term in Room 10! We are focusing on letter writing in our literacy programme this term and so I have sent you all a letter to get you started! Write back to us at school so we will get lots of lovely mail coming to us to read in class, tell us what you have been doing during the holidays and post it off!
If you haven't got a letter yet, keep checking the letterbox as I am sure one will be arriving soon.
Enjoy the last days of your holiday, see you on Monday! Mrs Pene : )

We had lots of fun learning hockey skills with our coach on the turf. We had a marvellous time. Thank-you for teaching us hockey skills because now we know a lot about hockey. Hockey is a good game to play because you get fit!

Change Experiments

To finish off our unit on change we have been doing simple experiments to understand about action and reaction.
This is the first one, it was great fun and simple to do at home. : )
Thanks Sam for your great explanation.
